Your Homes – Brantford
Located in the heart of downtown Brantford. The 1912 Queen and Darling Street YMCA was reborn. In partnership, Y Homes contracted Vicano Construction Limited to breathe new life into a historical Brantford landmark with the inspirational design created by MMMC Architects Inc.
The original 1912 structure remained, retaining it’s historical integrity and character and was outfitted to entertain new affordable housing apartments while the new construction was to erect a seven story apartment building for Brantford’s ever growing student population.
Since it’s initial construction completion in 1912, the YMCA facility has seen several additions located behind the Queen and Darling facades. Vicano Construction Limited has undertaken remediation and demolition of those joined structures while retaining the structural integrity of the original 1912 building.
The completed new facility is furnished with new mechanical systems integrated for efficient operation by Y Homes. Interior finishes were upgraded breathing new life in the historical halls. Upon completion the 9 million dollar, 74,000 square foot new facility includes 33 affordable apartments and 32 four-bedroom student apartments.
Demolition began September 2005 with a completion in time for fall classes 2006.
